Duration of Services 04/2020 - 12/2025
Brief Description of the Project :

Ankara Master Plan Study aims to provide sustainable, long-term, in compliance with national and international standards services to meet the demand for drinking water and the need for collection and treatment of wastewater, which is increasing in parallel with the growth and development of Ankara, removal of stormwater without causing any damage, supply of drinking water, disposal of wastewater and collection and removal of stormwater considering the intermediate years of 2030 and 2040, with the target year being 2054.

The studies were carried out under the following five main headings ;

  • Part 1: Water Demand and Water Resources Management
  • Part 2: Water, Wastewater and Stormwater Infrastructure
  • Part 3: Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment
  • Part 4: Institutional Structure
  • Part 5: Financial Analysis and Investment Programs
Scope of Services :
  • Collection and analysis of data,
  • Preparation of Population Estimates, Density Distributions and Growth Scenario (Population Estimate for Ankara Province, with an area of 2,551,211 ha, for the target year 2025: 9,466,517 people for 25 districts (9 metropolitan districts, 4 urban districts and 12 other districts),
  • Projection of Water Needs According to Demand Areas (Water Consumption Estimate for Ankara Metropolitan Municipality for 2025: 939,275,393 m3/year),
  • Identification of Existing Surface and Underground Drinking Water Resources and 5. Assessment of potential water resources (1160 drinking water sources, 700 drinking water wells),
  • Integrated water resources management,
  • Conducting drought assessment and climate resilience-drought analyses for existing, planned and potential water resources due to climate change,
  • Assessment of drinking water quality,
  • Determination of technically and economically acceptable water loss rates and preparation of phased implementation programs for their control,
  • Evaluation of existing drinking water treatment plants (9 DWTP, 106 CWWTP), determination of capacity increase needs and planning of new treatment plants by determining new treatment technologies and process types (capacity increase for 3 DWTP, planning for 2 new DWTP, 186 new CWWTP),
  • Examination of existing water transmission and distribution systems (5,250 km transmission lines, 2,540 drinking water reservoirs and 290 pump stations), modeling at the master plan level and suggestion of new plans (4,901 km new transmission lines, 116 new pump stations, renovation of 117 existing pump stations, 756 drinking water tanks, 189 new drinking water wells and renovation planning of 25 existing wells),
  • Evaluation of taste and odor formation in the drinking water network, treatment plants and sources,
  • Calculation of wastewater flow rate and pollution load,
  • Examination of existing wastewater collection systems (2,033 km), scenario-based modeling and development of new plans (planning of 352 km of wastewater lines),
  • Evaluation of existing wastewater treatment plants (20 WWTP, 8 CWWTP), determination of capacity increase and planning of new treatment plants needed by determining new treatment technologies and process types (planning of 4 new WWTP, decommissioning of 5 WWTP, capacity increase in 15 WWTP, planning of 147 WWTP/CWTTP for rural areas),
