Uzbekistan, Improvement of Water Resources Management in Surkhandarya Region (Reconstruction of Canals System Khazarbag-Akkapchigay)

Brief Description of the Project:

In scope of Improvement of Water Resources Management in Surkhandarya Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Reconstruction of Canals System Khazarbag-Akkapchigay is being designed. Khazarbag-Akkapchigay Canals System was constructed during Soviet Union period and consists of Right Bank Canal, Tupolang- Karatag Canal, Akkapchigay Canal, connecting canal to Sherabad main canal and engineering structures in Tangimushsai Creek and R-1 and R-2 canals.

Improvement of the main irrigation system including these canals and structures located above consists of 6 design and construction packages given below.

Package No. 1: Reconstruction of Right Bank Canal and Tupolang Karatag Canal (TKK) with the structures located above (Total canal length: 27.6 km)

Package No. 2: Reconstruction of Khazarbag Canal with the structures located above (Total canal length: 47.208 km)

Package No. 3: Reconstruction of Akkapchigay Canal (Total canal length: 38.107 km)

Package No. 4: Reconstruction of Irrigation Structures on Tangimushsai Creek and Connection Canal to Sherabad Main Canal with the structures located above (Total canal length: 24.229 km)

Package No. 5: Application of Drip Irrigation with the Design in the Sample Regions which consists of 3 Areas with total of 100 ha, under the scope of Irrigation Systems for Water Saving Technology Analysis

Package No. 6: Reconstruction of R-1 and R-2 Canals with the structures located above (Total canal length: 22.38 km)

The first five packages listed above are financed by Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Package No:6 is financed by The Government of Uzbekistan.

The project aims to increase water access level of 103 430 ha of area, improve water flow, decrease canal maintenance works and decrease operational costs of water resources by switching from pumping system to gravity flow system.

Scope of Services:

• Preparation of the Detail Design,
• Preparation of Tender Documents and assistance to Client during tender process,
• Construction supervision under FIDIC Conditions,
• Assistance to Client in all terms of project management, including training of the staff of Executing Agency/PIU on effective project management.
