GAP Urban Sanitation and Planning Project

Brief Description of the Project :

Project components are as follows;

Solid waste management for Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Siverek and Mardin;

Transfer

• Preliminary design of six transfers stations, in accordance with the existing collection systems, including the identification of additional collection equipment,
• Identification of additional transport equipment and layout of transfer station,
• Site definition, preparation of design and tender document.

Landfills

• Design of four sanitary landfills including the definition of suitable measures for the closure of existing dumps,
• Preparation of underground water monitoring program and investigation the probability of underground water pollution,
• Surveying and evaluation of the results of the geological investigations,
• Preparation of topographical maps,
• Realization of the land fills in phases,
• Preparation of tender documents and design reports.

Environmental Aspects

• Description of the existing solid waste management,
• Identification of beneficial and eventual adverse environmental effects associated with the implementation of the project major components during the construction and operation phase,
• Preparation of management plan for the mitigation of eventual adverse effects.

Initial and Financial Aspects

• Investigations of the current situation based on existing information about expenses, revenues, staff resources, maintenance facilities, institutional situation,
• Elaboration of a financial model for cost recovery within the existing framework and the World Bank loan conditions.

Scope of Services :

• Studies of water and wastewater treatment in 56 settlements
• In-situ assessment of selected chlorination points in the project
• In-situ assessment of present institutional arrangements and responsibilities in the settlements
• Tendering of Chlorination Equipment
• Rehabilitation of Existing Water Supply Networks
• In-situ Assessment of Selected Water Supply Systems in Selected 4 Settlements
• In-situ Assessment of Present Institutional Arrangements and Responsibilities in Selected 4 Settlements
• Urban Planning and Geographical Information System for Diyarbakır
• Establishment of a City Information System for Diyarbakır
• Establishment of a City Planning Department for the Metropolitan Diyarbakır
• Establishment of a Survey Department for the Metropolitan Diyarbakır
• Integration of Diyarbakır Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DISKI) into the Geographical Information System of Diyarbakır.
