Brief Description of the Project :

Basic and detail sub consultancy design services has been carried out for Parsons Brinckerhoff International. Client is Yapı Merkezi İnşaat ve Sanayi A.Ş. and SK Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd Joint Venture (YMSKJV) under 14,600 m long Istanbul Strait Road   Tunnel Crossing Project “Eurasia Tunnel Project” (EPC). Contract is financed by European Investment Bank, European Reconstruction and Development Bank, Korea Exim Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank, Mizuho Bank and constructed by Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (Employer). Client’s Design Verification Engineer (IDV) is HNTB from USA.

Scope of Services :

Under the scope of design services excavation support system and structural designs as basic & detailed, have been performed for the structures which are being constructed by YMSKJV on the European Section of Section 2 of the Project.

EXCAVATION SUPPORT SYSTEM DESIGN

  • Europe Transition Box and Ventilation Building: Area 2,300 m2, length70 m, depth 35 m
  • Cut and Cover Tunnels on the European side (East & West sides): Area 9,000 m2, length 385 m, depth 25 m
  • U-Sections on the European side (East & West sides): Area 4,000 m2, length 140+120 m, depth 12 m
  • Substation Building: Area 1,900 m2, length 45 m, depth 14 m

Excavation support systems consist of diaphragm walls thicknesses varying between 1.5m and 0.6m. Diaphragm walls are supported with concrete & steel struts and wale beams. Console diaphragm walls have been used as well excavation heights less than 6 m. Some of the work items done within scope of service are as below;

  • Ground treatment design and Settlement Contours,
  • Liquefaction analysis,
  • Construction sequences,
  • Dewatering system design,
  • Geotechnical instrumentation,
  • Recommendations for pile load tests, anchorage tests,
  • Bar bending schedules,
  • Specifications,
  • Bill of quantities,

STRUCTURAL DESIGN

  • Europe Transition Box and Ventilation Building: Area 4,400m2, length 70m, depth 30m
  • Cut and Cover Tunnels on the European side (East & West sides): Area 10,000m2, length 385m, depth 25m
  • U-Sections on the European side (East & West sides): Area 4000m2, length 140+120m, depth 9m
  • Substation Building: Area 2,050m2,length 43m, depth 14m
  • Single Bored Tunnel Roadway Decks and Interior Structures (only detailed design): Length 3400m, diameter 13.8m, with double decks
  • Retaining Walls (East & West sides): Length 100+115m, height 4m
  • Tsunami Walls: Length 140m, height 4m

Soil-Structure analysis (SSI) procedure has been used in seismic design for underground structures. High resistance concrete and steel have been used in project (C40 / S420 and S500). Design life of the project is 100 years. Some of the work items done with in scope of service are as below;

  • Bar bending schedules,

  • Bill of quantities,
  • Stability analysis.
