Three mega projects that connect the Anatolian and European sides of İstanbul Strait. 01 January 2010

We, as Su-Yapı family, are proud to participate in and to provide services for all of the three mega projects that connect the Anatolian and European sides of İstanbul Strait.

The first one of these megaprojects is Melen Potable Water Tunnel, which involves the treatment of water taken from Melen Creek, which is located at a distance of approximately 200 km from İstanbul, the conveyance of this water to İstanbul by use of pumps and the transmission of it to the European side via tunnels constructed under the Bosphorus. It is the most important potable water supply project in Turkey in terms of volume, technology and the scale of investment. Su-Yapı provided design, construction supervision and project management services between the years of 1996 and 2008 concerning the whole Melen Potable Water System, which is an investment realized with Japanese financing.

The second one is a mass transit rail system, now in operation, that connects the Anatolian and European sides of İstanbul Strait through the use of immersed tube tunnel technology under the Bosphorus, within the scope of Marmaray railway transport project. Su-Yapı carried out the entire architectural, statics, infrastructure and electromechanical detail designs of large underground metro stations on land, underground and aboveground approach structures, ventilation buildings, and new road and intersection arrangements under the scope of Marmaray Project (a section of approximately 13 km named as BC1) implemented with Japanese financing. Relevant works again included complex, stringent and highly technical implementations and were completed in 2014 after a duration of 10 years.

The third one is the Eurasia Tunnel: An access tunnel that runs from Kazlıçeşme on the European side to Göztepe on the Anatolian side, serving for transportation via rubber-tired vehicles only. Tunnel section is between Çatladıkapı and Harem, and inevitably necessitates many new approach structures and road arrangements on both sides. Under the scope of this project, Su-Yapı is preparing the detail designs of approach structures and road arrangements on the European side. Concerning the coastal road on the European side, many new arrangements, undergrounding works, and works related to intersections are being carried out.

After our 50 years, we are still unswervingly and firmly aware of, and we act upon, the fact that we must produce with utmost engineering quality, always bearing in mind that not only these 3 projects but any of our projects in any other sectors is individually precious both for us and our country.

We wish that success accompanies us in all our work.
