Brief Description of the Project :

The objective of Melen System is to provide water from Melen River to Istanbul. The project cover preparation of the final design, tender documents for construction packages, assistance to tendering and construction supervision services.

The Melen project is characterised by the components listed below:

CP-01 Construction of Melen River Intake Weir, Melen and Cumhuriyet Pumping Stations

 Melen Work Site

  • Melen River Intake Weir (8,5 m3/s capacity)
  • Melen Pumping Station (5 unit + 1 unit stand-by: 7m3/s/unit, Hm=196m, 4500 kW/unit)
  • Melen Suction Pipe
  • Melen Pressure Pipeline Ø 2540mm, L=1 768m Steel Pipe
  • Melen Reservoir (26 000 m3)

Cumhuriyet Work Site

  • Cumhuriyet Suction Pipe
  • Cumhuriyet Pumping Station (5 unit + 1 unit stand-by: 66 m3/s/unit, Hm=100m, 2500 kW/unit)
  • Cumhuriyet Pressure Pipeline Ø 2540mm, L=3 894m Steel Pipe
  • Cumhuriyet Reservoir (26 000 m3)
  • Surge Tank Reservoir (30 000 m3)

CP-02 Construction of Pipeline Main Between Melen Water Reservoir and Kincilli Town

Construction of 69 284 m in Ø2540 mm steel pipeline.

CP-03A Construction and rehabilitation of damaged Pipeline Main between Kıncıllı - Ağva, and construction of Yeşilçay connection.

Rehabilitation of 33 850 m damaged pipeline between Kıncıllı-Ağva and construction of 1 650 m in 2,5 m diameter pipeline between Ağva-İsaköy Pump Station for the connection of Yeşilçay system.

CP-03B Construction of Pipeline Between Ağva – Cumhuriyet Water Treatment Plant

Construction of 35 233 m length in Ø2540 diameter steel pipeline within the scope of SP3.

CP-04 Construction of Pipeline Between Şile Control Center – Hamidiye Tunnel

The structures which form the system are given in order in accordance with the flow direction.

Type and Capacity: circular cross section, concrete lined 38.5 m3/s

Yeşilvadi Conduit

Alaçalı – Ömerli Tunnel

Type: Circular cross section, steel lined, reinforced concrete

Diameter and Length: 4.5 m, L= 4 576 m

Hamidiye Tunnel

Type and Capacity: circular cross section, concrete lined 38.5 m3/s

Diameter and Length: 4.5 m, L= 3 460 m

Ömerli Connection

Type, Diameter, Length: Circular cross section, concrete lined,
4.5 m, L= 65 m Capacity: 38.5 m3/s

CP-05 Construction of Cumhuriyet Water Treatment Plant

The contract include the design of plant, process, detail design of process structures, procurement of construction materials and equipment, construction and installation, commissioning of the plant and remedying the defects works within the Defects Liability Period for Cumhuriyet Water Treatment Plant

CP-06 Construction of Conveyance Line Between Cumhuriyet Pumping Reservoir and Osmankuyu/ Kağithane District

This section (excluding the Bosphorus Straight Crossing Tunnel) is a conveyance line which consist of 17109 m pipe line and tunnels in between Cumhuriyet Pumping reservoir and Kağıthane Distribution Centre. Afterwards, due to the revision on Ortaçeşme and Ayazağa tunnels and other tunnels and conveyance system, the length of the conveyance line increased to 20 367 m.

Type and Capacity : Circular concrete lined, 32.0 m3/s

Diameter and Length: 4.5 m, L= 2 047 m

Shaft

Type, Depth and Diameter : Circular concrete culvert, 35 m, 8 m.

Beykoz Tunnel

Type and Capacity : Circular concrete lined, 32.0 m3/s

Diameter and Length: 4.0 m, L= 2 843 m

Beykoz – Ortaçeşme Pipeline

Type and Capacity : Steel pipe, 8.3 m3/s

Diameter and Length: Ø2500 mm, L= 1 330 m

Ortaçeşme Tunnel

Type and Capacity : Steel lined concrete, 32.0 m3/s

Diameter and Length: 4.0 m, L= 966 m

Ayazağa Tunnel

Type and Capacity : Steel lined concrete, 32.0 m3/s

Diameter and Length: 4.0 m, L= 2 826 m

Osmankuyu Tunnel

Type and Capacity : Steel lined concrete, 32.0 m3/s

Diameter and Length: 4.0 m, L= 2 175 m

Osmankuyu – Kağıthane Transmission Main

Type and Capacity : Steel pipe, 8.3 m3/s

Diameter and Length: 4.0 m, L= 3 035 m

CP-07 Bosphorus Straight Crossing Tunnel

The construction works of this section, 5 550 m, which is a part of Melen System are given as follows;

Cut and cover conduit: 90.14 m (Asian side)

Beykoz Shaft: 8 m inner diameters, the depth is 145 m until the base of Bosphorus tunnel

Bosphorus Straight Crossing Tunnel: 4.0 m diameter, TBM for 3.1 km from European side and D&B method for 2.1 km from Asian side.

Access tunnels (European side): 221 m, Bosphorus tunnel outlet

All tunnels and conduits are 4.00 m diameter and steel coating between 12-20 mm thickness.

CP-08 Supply of Steel Pipes and Special Parts (for SP-01 and SP-02)

This contract comprise the manufacturing, testing, inner and outer isolation, transportation to site and keeping on site of 71 215 m steel pipes which will be used in Melen pressured pipeline with 2,50 m diameter and 21 mm thickness.

CP-09 Supply of Steel Pipes and Special Parts (for SP-03)

This contract comprise the manufacturing, testing, inner and outer isolation, transportation to site and keeping on site of 69 510 m steel pipes which will be used in SP-03 with 2,50 m diameter and 21 mm thickness.

CP-10 Supply of Steel Pipes and Special Parts (for SP-06 and SP-01)

This contract comprise the manufacturing, testing, inner and outer isolation, transportation to site and keeping on site of 15 867 m steel pipes which will be used in SP-06 and Cumhuriyet Pressured pipe line with 2,50 m diameter and 21 mm thickness.

CP-11 Power Supply and Transmission Lines

Supply, installation and construction works for Power Supply for Melen Pumping Station; 154 / 11 kV – 2 x 50 MVA Transformer Station, 9.3 km 154 kV Overhead Transmission lines, Power Supply for Cumhuriyet Pumping Station; 154 / 11 kV – 2 x 31.5 MVA Transformer Station, 12.9 km and 4.1 km, 154 kV Transmission lines.

Scope of Services :
  • Geological surveys,
  • Review of existing Feasibility Report
  • Detail design (excluding treatment plant process units),
  • Preparation of Contract Documents (including steel pipe and special parts supply)
  • Mapping studies and preparation of land acquisition plans,
  • Preparation of EIA Report and Environmental Monitoring Program,
  • Preparation of tender documents for construction works,
  • Technical assistance during tender period and tendering,
  • Supervision of construction works. (excluding the dam, sea crossing tunnel and conduit).
