Brief Description of the Project:

Project area partly covers the lands of Bergama, Menemen, Tire, Kemalpaşa and Foça sub-provinces of İzmir province in the Aegean Region. 

The project comprises the following facilities: 

İzmir Bergama Seklik Lagoon and Irrigation: The Lagoon of Rock-Fill type and 30.65 m height from foundation will supply irrigation water to gross 116 ha arable land.

İzmir Bergama Narlıca Lagoon and Irrigation: The Lagoon of Rock-Fill type and 32.23 m height from foundation will supply irrigation water to gross 210 ha arable land.

İzmir Kemalpaşa Akalan Lagoon and Irrigation: The Lagoon of Rock-Fill type and 32.01 m height from foundation will supply irrigation water to gross 124 ha arable land.

İzmir Menemen Bozalan Lagoon and Irrigation: The Lagoon of Semi-Permeable Fill type and 33.12 m height from foundation will supply irrigation water to gross 135 ha arable land.

İzmir Tire Dereli Lagoon and Irrigation: The Lagoon of Rock-Fill type and 34.69 m height from foundation will supply irrigation water to gross 239 ha arable land.

İzmir Foça Kışla Lagoon and Irrigation: The Lagoon of Semi-Permeable Fill type and 15.30 m height from foundation will supply irrigation water to gross 176 ha arable land.

İzmir Tire Sarılar Lagoon and Irrigation: The Lagoon of Semi-Permeable Fill type and 29.44 m height from foundation will supply irrigation water to gross 334 ha arable land.

Planning report will be prepared separately for the lagoons, for which Preliminary Study Reports are available. Planning studies will be performed in two phases. 

1. Preliminary Study Report

Studies to determine the types and capacities of the contractual facilities and to select the project formulation will be performed in this phase, and the “Preliminary Study Report”, compiling the results of studies, will be submitted to DSİ. Detailed planning services will be proceeded with after the project formulation is accepted by DSİ. The Engineering Hydrology Reports and Agricultural Economy Interim Reports on lagoons further to Preliminary Study Land Classification Reports will have been approved in the Preliminary Study Report phase. 

1/1000-scale digital maps for axis sites of storage facilities and reservoir area, and 1/2000-scale digital maps for irrigation areas will be prepared. 

2. Planning Reports

Planning studies will be commenced on the basis of the project formulation selected by DSİ who will review the “Preliminary Study Reports” and approve the proposed project formulations. The appendices to Planning Reports, namely the “Planning Land Classification and Drainage Report” and “Agricultural Economy and Land Acquisition Planning Report”, will be prepared. Natural construction material investigations and laboratory tests further to engineering geology studies and foundation borehole drillings will be carried out, and “Engineering Geology and Natural Construction Materials Planning Report” will be prepared. 

The EIA studies will be performed as basis to the Project Introductory File and certificates for the “EIA IS Not Required” will be obtained. 

Design of Lagoons 

Final design of lagoons, of which Planning Reports have been agreed by the Client, will be based on the requirements specified in the “Technical Specification for Dam Construction”. The following aspects are to be considered in Lagoon Design. 

a) Preliminary Report

Preliminary Report will be prepared on the basis of the Client’s comments on revision, if any, of the basic formulation proposed in Planning Report. 

b) Interim Report

Interim Report will be prepared to comprise the preliminary calculations and project formulation.

c)  Design

Design studies will progress after considering the requirements specified in the Dam Design Technical Specification and after the interim report is agreed by the Client. Design studies will comprise all relevant hydraulic, stability, static-reinforcement, steel structure design calculations and drawings. Stability analyses, stress and displacement analyses, leakage analyses and dynamic analyses will be performed, and types and locations of instruments to be placed in lagoon body will be detailed on detail drawings.
